Benazir Bhutto Tribute
"My colleagues and I are stunned and saddened by the brutal murder of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan.  The world is a poorer place at her passing. "

For the past several years, members of the Scribe team in Washington and in London have provided advice and counsel to Mrs. Bhutto and her associates in the Pakistan People's Party.  Most of this advice has been in regard to political issues.  I personally met with Mrs. Bhutto on several occasions in Washington, London, and Dubai.  Our relationship was cordial and Mrs. Bhutto was always gracious, kind, and intellectually engaged during our conversations.

In recent days, in a new partnership with Aristotle International, Inc., Scribe designed and deployed a
web site for use by the Pakistan People's Party for political fundraising outside of Pakistan.  The web site was launched, unfortunately, barely 24 hours before Mrs. Bhutto's assassination, so its future is uncertain.  It does remain active until further notice, and may be used as a portal to send messages of sympathy to Mrs. Bhutto’s political associates.

"BiBi was more than a client.  She was a friend and she will be impossible to forget.  We wish to convey our sincere condolences to her family, her colleagues, and the people of Pakistan."

Farah Stockman - 'US Efforts for Stability in Key Ally are Shaken'
WASHINGTON - The assassination of Benazir Bhutto, the feisty, Harvard-educated leader of Pakistan's largest opposition party threatens to destroy US plans for a gradual transition to democracy from an increasingly unpopular government dominated by the military. For more than a year, US officials have pushed for elections in Pakistan to restore legitimacy to the government of General Pervez Musharraf, a military ruler and key ally in the war on terror who appears to be losing his grip on the country.  ( click here to read full article)

The continuing decline of Zimbabwe, where inflation is running at about 1,000 percent and unemployment as high as 80 percent a year because of the misrule of President Robert Mugabe, is a story that has grown all too familiar, except that now a respected international think tank fears the country could spark a "violent explosion" that would destabilize southern Africa. Washington lobbyist Edward J. von Kloberg III packed five steamer trunks before departing for his final overseas trip in mid-April. That was his custom: to travel in the style of another era, to adorn himself with capes, furs and fedoras, to book the finest suites. But this time the baron, as he called himself, hobbled on a cane back to the cramped economy-class section of an Alitalia flight to Rome. (click here to read full article)
