(WASHINGTON,

to President George W. Bush.
Ambassador Kamunanwire previously served as his country’s permanent
representative to the United Nations in New York (1988-96) and as
ambassador to Germany (1986-88).
Upon presenting his credentials to President Bush, Ambassador Kamunanwire
said: “The United States and Uganda share many things in common.
We are both multicultural democracies characterized by respect for
the rule of law and for the dignity of every individual. We both seek
to stem the spread of HIV/AIDS and assure that future generations
are free from this threat to health and well-being. We are allies
in the war on terrorism. ”
Last month, the U.S. Department of State’s most recent annual
Country Reports on Terrorism noted that during 2005, “Uganda
had a strong regional voice in opposing international terrorism and
supported U.S. counterterrorism initiatives.”
Educated at Columbia University in New York, in recent years Ambassador
Kamunanwire has been an educator and scholar. He has taught at City
College of the City University of New York, where he had also directed

many other scholarly articles in the field of international relations.
Ambassador Kamunanwire is fluent in English and five African languages,
